UNDISCOVERED BEAUTIES BY MTB: THE CALATINO

An itinerary linking the Natural Reserve of Santo Pietro, San Michele di Ganzaria and the town of Grammichele through pleasant bike rides on low-traffic roads in the Sicilian hinterland to fully grasp the true essence of our territory.

 

Arrival
Arrival in Caltagirone, by own transport (or you can reserve shuttle service), accommodation in the rooms assigned and free time to visit the main attractions of the historic center of Caltagirone a few steps from the B&B.

First day
Santo Pietro
Breakfast and departure by shuttle to the Reserve. An MTB itinerary of remarkable landscape and environmental interest that will allow you to totally immerse yourself in the uncontaminated nature through paths that wind through the entire area and that will offer the opportunity to travel several kilometers in a unique landscape.

Second day
La Ganzaria
Breakfast and departure by shuttle from Caltagirone to discover the territory of the municipality of San Michele di Ganzaria. Start of the MTB route is characterized by dirt roads that will lead you to the Tower of Cutuminello, to the valley of Eremita and to the Case Costa. Continue to pedal up to 800 meters altitude to reach the most scenic points of Monte Scala looking towards Caltagirone, Gela and Niscemi which will offer a wonderful view, typical of the Sicilian territory. From there, continue with a fascinating descent full of fun turns until you take a dirt road that will take you back to the entrance of the village of S. Michele di Ganzaria and then continue back to the starting point, Caltagirone.

Third day
Grammichele
After a rich and tasty breakfast, we start, by MTB, for a cultural tour. Starting from Caltagirone, we will proceed in rural streets to reach the medieval church (XI-XIII Century) of Santo Pietro called “Crisiazza”; the Case Marineo, a beautiful rural structure used as a set in 1987 of the film “the Sicilian” by Michael Cimino, about the life of Salvatore Giuliano; The well-kept Bosco di Marineo-Cozzarelli with the open-air sculptures by Salvatore Bellino; the Hexagonal Square and the desserts of a well-known Grammichele pastry shop to conclude a wonderful MTB day with “dolcezza”.
